Fractional CFO · Mesa

Blueprint: Fractional CFO
for Construction Companies

CFO-level advisory for general contractors and multi-job specialty trades — without a full-time CFO seat. Built for owners who already need more than a monthly close: cash timing, WIP truth, and bonding- or lender-ready numbers on a set rhythm.

Based in Mesa at 4320 E Brown Rd, Suite 103. Serving contractors across Mesa, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Phoenix.

Who Blueprint is for

Blueprint is for construction owners who are past "just get the books closed" and into decisions that need a CFO lens:

If you mainly need reconciled books and a monthly close, start with Foundation or Frame — then add Blueprint when you want the advisory seat. Blueprint can also run on its own when the books are already solid.

We work with construction businesses only — roughly the $1M–$30M band overall. We do not sell fractional CFO work to restaurants, SaaS, or general small business.

What's in Blueprint

Everything below matches the live Blueprint package on Services. Nothing is invented for this page.

On a set monthly rhythm

Three Blueprint levels (scoped on the DIG, not a public rate card)

LevelBuilt for
CoreThe monthly rhythm for owners with clean books
PlusAdds a mid-month check-in and weekly cash updates
ExecutiveFor larger builders (~$15M+), with lender- and board-level reporting

Need budgets, pricing resets, lender packages, or deal work beyond the monthly rhythm? Those are scoped up front so the monthly fee does not quietly expand — same rule as on Services.

Response / delivery (from Services): same-day response · monthly CFO call + reports · primary contact is senior leadership.

Fractional CFO vs a full-time CFO

A full-time construction CFO is the right hire for some firms — usually when you need a daily in-seat operator across finance, systems, and a large office. Most East Valley contractors in our band do not need that cost or headcount yet.

Blueprint is the outsourced seat: a senior advisor on a monthly (or Plus/Executive) rhythm who already knows construction WIP, cash, and surety conversations — without hiring, onboarding, and carrying a full-time executive.

You still own the company. We bring the CFO lens, the forecast, and the pack your lenders and bonding agents expect to see.

What the monthly rhythm looks like

Blueprint is not a Slack channel with occasional opinions. It is a set cadence:

  1. Books and WIP stay current — usually via Foundation or Frame close by the 15th, or your existing close if Blueprint stands alone
  2. KPI pack lands — job margin, WIP fade, AR aging, cash
  3. 60-minute advisory call — what changed, which jobs are fading, where cash is tight over the next 13 weeks, what the bank or surety will ask next
  4. Between-call updates on Plus / Executive — mid-month check-in and weekly cash updates (Plus); lender- and board-level reporting when Executive is scoped

If a job is under-billed for months, retainage is treated like spendable cash, or the WIP schedule and the P&L disagree, the call is where that gets named early — before a surety or lender names it for you.

When contractors usually call

Common triggers (not case studies — patterns we scope on the DIG):

If the books themselves are behind, we do not paper over it with a forecast. The DIG scopes cleanup first; then Blueprint starts on ground we can trust.

Blueprint vs bookkeeping packages (Foundation / Frame)

PackageRoleTypical fit
FoundationMonthly close by the 15th, reconciliations, P&L and balance sheet, QBOAbout $1M–$3M, 1–5 active jobs
FrameEverything in Foundation, plus job costing, monthly WIP schedule, CFO Insight Report, Blackline CommandAbout $3M+, 5+ active jobs
BlueprintFractional CFO advisory (call, KPIs, 13-week cash, bonding/lender support)Owners who want a CFO seat — alone or paired with Foundation or Frame

Frame already includes an AI-generated CFO Insight Report. Blueprint is the human advisory layer: the call, the forecast, and bonding/lender support on a set cadence.

Most multi-job GCs pair Frame + Blueprint. Owners with strong in-house or existing books can take Blueprint alone. Every engagement still starts with a DIG so we know which pairing fits.

Start with the DIG Diagnostic

Every Blackline engagement — including Blueprint — starts with a DIG: Discover, Investigate, Guide.

  1. Discover — walk through your books, bank accounts, and the tools you run today
  2. Investigate — find gaps: unreconciled accounts, miscoded job costs, missing WIP, catch-up work
  3. Guide — clear scope: the right package (Foundation, Frame, Blueprint, or a pair), any cleanup, and what happens first

Most DIGs take 1–2 weeks. Cleanup, if needed, is quoted as its own project — never folded into the monthly fee.

FAQ

What is a fractional CFO for a construction company?

A fractional CFO is a part-time, outsourced CFO: senior financial leadership on a set schedule instead of a full-time hire. For contractors, that usually means cash forecasting, WIP and margin review, KPI packs, and support for banks and sureties — not day-to-day data entry.

How is Blueprint different from a controller?

A controller (or strong bookkeeping lead) owns the close, the chart of accounts, and the accuracy of the books. A fractional CFO uses those clean numbers to advise on cash, bonding capacity, job profitability trends, and forward plans. Many contractors need both: Frame (or Foundation) for the books, Blueprint for the advisory seat. We do not sell a separate "outsourced controller" product name — that work sits inside Foundation/Frame close and QC.

Do I need Frame before Blueprint?

Not always. Blueprint can run alone when books are already trustworthy. If job costing or WIP is missing, we usually scope Frame (or cleanup after the DIG) so the CFO call is grounded in real job numbers — not a pretty spreadsheet disconnected from the ledger.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. Tax preparation and filing are never included in any Blackline package. Blueprint includes tax-strategy planning with your CPA — we coordinate so the construction books support the conversation; your CPA files.

What's in the monthly KPI pack?

Per Services: job margin, WIP fade, AR aging, and cash. The pack feeds the monthly advisory call so you're looking at the same few numbers every month.

Can Blueprint help with bonding or a bank package?

Yes — bonding and lender support are part of Blueprint. Clean monthly books and a current WIP still matter; see bonding financials and pair with Frame when you need the monthly WIP built from the books.
